Extra lyrics
MAMA PASSED ON IN THE COURSE OF TIME
AND THE SUN DRIED UP THE WISTERIA VINE
I DRIFTED THEN, FROM PLACE TO PLACE
SOMETIMES I'D FIND ME A FRIENDLY FACE
BUT I WAS ALWAYS LOOKIN' ALL OVER THIS LAND
HOPIN' I'D RUN INTO MY OLD MAN
Notes:
I had to adjust the lyrics for the promenades as the originals did not fit this square dance version of Rod McKuen's
original song.
Sue & I went to a Rod McKuen concert in 1983 here in Wollongong. It was poorly advertised and the attendance was
only a couple of dozen people in a huge theatre. Rod still gave a great performance and came down off the stage to
meet and talk after the close.
He was the genuine article, humble, interesting, approachable, funny, entertaining...just an average guy. I asked him
about some of his other songs...he said he would love to do everything, but time is always the enemy....so he and I
sang a duet there and then. There are not many entertainers out there that would have done that!
